12 Contemporary Drawing Lessons

The Ebook features twelve stimulating, unique and creative approaches to drawing that do not require realistic drawing skills. Using common, everday resources, each exercise links to a contemporary artist so that your students can relate the activity to professional practice. Drawing has never been this enjoyable! The Contemporary drawing Practice exercises are suitable for students aged 11 - 16. You do not need to be an art specialist to be able to teach these lessons because the children will be able to teach themselves. Just print them out in colour and laminate them. Each exercise contains learning objectives, step by step instructions, full colour photos of artists work, research tasks and extension work. Macro Art

Macro Art

Suitable for most age ranges, this very flexible project combines digital photography with the art of observational drawing. It is a great project for getting some quality, expressive drawing work in student’s portfolios at exam stage or for teaching younger students to ‘see’ more closely. A very expressive and open lesson, students are free to express what they see in a variety of styles. I've had great results from this as a topic for less able students or teaching experimentation with materials. I've used it as a GCSE project and in the Primary phase. It's easy, effective and fun!

Baseline assessment for Art

I've revised and updated my baseline test to include measuring across the four main attainment areas of Making Skills, Ideas, Knowledge and Evaluation. My test takes only one lesson to complete plus one homework task and marking is done in the lesson itself. I've used this test for years and I know it works well. I was a member of the NSEAD Curriculum Writing Group that wrote the curriculum competencies, more formally called the: 'Framework for Progression, Planning for Learning, Assessment, Recording and Reporting 2014.’ For more fantastic art resources visit my TES store https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/paulcarney700
the Art of Questions

the Art of Questions

(1)
The art of questions is a guide to developing a question based curriculum for art, craft and design. It shows you how to design art projects using deep questions for pupils of any age group as well as how to develop questions for supporting students, exploring art materials, becoming an independent learner and in order that they can become thinking intelligent students. It isn't just for high ability or older students because it shows you how to differentiate your questioning to suit pupils of any age or ability. It is a practical guide that stems from actual classroom practice and isn't just a Bloom's questions guide, in fact he isn't even mentioned! Raise attainment, open the door to pupil-centred teaching and ditch the teacher-led model. Teaching art in this way is less demanding, creative and fun! It is written by an Advanced Skills Art Teacher experienced in Primary and Secondary art teaching and a national consultant.

Me in a Box

Me in a Box

This exciting project is a new slant on the traditional 'identity' project used in many school art departments, except this version does not depend on the ability to draw a self portrait, but rather uses found objects and symbolism to create deep, meaningful pieces of art. What's more, the project embeds cross-curricular learning, integrating Religious Education themes on identity with Mathematics of Net Making and construction of 3D shapes. The download contains a full Scheme of Work and four PowerPoint presentations as well as photocopiable NET templates, artist links and student examples to help you. This was one of my favourite projects as a teacher!
